Due to sharp drop in prices in 2015 Estonian oil shale sector turned into a crisis.

The interest of international companies and private investors to the processing of oil shale is always conditional upon economic reasons: if the cost of production of shale oil becomes lower than the cost of natural oil, many people are ready to invest money into the processing of shale.

Kohtla-Jдrve city government has approved plans by Viru Keemia Grupp (VKG) for a third shale oil plant.

The Cabinet on Sunday approved a concession agreement signed with the Saudi Arabian Oil Shale Company for the distillation of shale oil.
The company has conducted the required feasibility study for the Atarat Umm Ghadran area.
The study included geological excavations and assessments of the environmental impact of the project.

The Uzbekneftegaz National Holding Company (NHC) will commission an oil-shale processing plant on the basis of the Sangruntau field in the Navoi region of Uzbekistan by the end of 2015, acting director general of UzLITIneftegaz, design institute under Uzbekneftegaz, Ulugbek Saidov said during the OGU-2013 oil and gas exhibition on Thursday.

Russian gas major Gazprom plans to develop the extraction of shale oil rather than shale gas in Russia, CEO Aleksey Miller has announced.
"In contrast to shale gas extraction, which is quite irrelevant for Russia, the tight oil production is of considerable interest to Gazprom Group and we will work actively on this issue," Miller said in a statement followed a meeting of the Gazprom Neft board of directors.
